The L6-NETAC & L6-NETPOE are an AC, and Power-Over-Ethernet enabled, Apple MFI-Certified Ethernet Adapters for iOS devices, offered up by Redpark.

Over the past few years we’ve seen Apple open up the capabilities of Ethernet connections to our iOS devices. This is particularly good news for a wide variety of end-user, Industry, and Enterprise users. While wireless offers us untethered convenience, Ethernet has its perks as well, whether they be the speed of a wired connection, reliability, or a secure and closed network connection for critical connections, making these two Redpark offerings a good option.

Particularly, if you’ve got a Power-Over-Ethernet enabled Switch, the Redpark L6-POE provides a single connector with 2.4A charging, and up to 225mb transfer speed. Whether you work from a desk, or in the field, or on the stage, you’ve got a single adapter providing a reliable fast, and secure network connection. Wireless networks we don’t control are frequently unreliable, oftentimes ethernet is the more reliable way to stay connected.

Of course, if you don’t have a POE switch, the L6-NETAC provides an external 12v power supply, which will enumerate the ethernet connection on your iOS device, and provide 2.4A charging.

Both devices are solid, the power, ethernet, and USB jacks provide tight connections, and the construction of the devices feels plenty solid for day-to-day use. They are very light, so if you’re needing a permanent setup, you’ll want to affix them. Redpark includes a small sticky pad with the device.

The connection provided by both Redpark devices is USB as we’re using the lightning-to-USB connector (not included), and then traversing the Ethernet connection. The maximum throughput of the device is 225mb, and it’s using USB 2.0. This is a solid amount of bandwidth – if you’re doing video streaming, for example, which is often kludgy over wireless.

If you’re looking for a clean, home ethernet setup for your iOS device, the L6-POE is appealing. It has a small footprint, and doesn’t require using externals as with the Apple USB 3 to Lightning Camera Adapter + the Apple USB to Ethernet dongle + a 2.4A connection to a suitably powered hub or wall wort. Sure, that works, but between the clutter and price – having an MFI-Certified single connector is great.

I’ve had the L6 up and running for several weeks, and haven’t experienced any dropouts or other issues. I can’t provide file transfer speeds as my testing wouldn’t be scientific, but anecdotally, it took me seconds to transfer very large audio and video files, and streaming video was also smooth.
